At United Air Temp, we’re as committed to environmentally friendly HVAC solutions as we are to delivering exceptional services and products. Many Florida homeowners rely on electric-powered heating and air conditioning systems to keep their homes comfortable, but you could still upgrade to a more efficient unit.
There’s never been a better time to replace your HVAC system with a newer, more efficient model. That’s because federal and utility rebates are available that make these energy-efficient systems even more affordable and cost-effective than they already are.
UAT will help you identify which rebates you’re eligible for and make the replacement process as easy as possible.
What’s the Difference Between Tax Credits & Rebates?
Tax credits allow taxpayers to owe less taxes. This may even result in a tax refund if the taxpayer owes no taxes.
Rebates, on the other hand, give you money back when you purchase a product or shortly after.
In Florida, the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 allows federal tax credits while local utility companies provide point-of-sale rebates.
Federal HVAC Tax Credits
Florida homeowners are eligible for a federal tax credit for installing air-source heat pumps or ductless mini-splits.
This means homeowners can claim a tax credit of $2,000 or 30% of the total cost, whichever is less, of a heat pump that has an ENERGY STAR® label or a mini-split that’s 16 SEER or higher.
HVAC Rebates for Florida Homeowners
Numerous utility providers throughout the state also offer rebates to homeowners when they choose to upgrade their HVAC system:
- JEA offers customers a $200 rebate on ENERGY STAR® certified air conditioners, heat pumps, or ductless mini-split HVAC systems. Additionally, customers can get a $25 rebate for ENERGY STAR® certified smart thermostats.
- Duke Energy offers incentives ranging from $100 to $300 to install air conditioners or heat pumps above 15.2 SEER2.
- Florida Public Utilities provides a $725 rebate to switch from electric to gas furnaces and a $500 rebate to replace an old gas furnace.
- Florida Power & Light Co incentivizes new energy-efficient heat pumps and air conditioners with a $150 rebate.
- Orlando Utilities Commission offers $45 to $1,150 back on heat pumps, depending on the AC size and SEER2 rating.
- Lakeland Electric provides a $500 rebate for heat pump installation, a $100 rebate on Wi-Fi programmable thermostats, and $100 for annual HVAC maintenance.
- Kissimmee Utility Authority has several rebates available, including $250 for a heat pump or central AC replacement, as well as 50% of the cost of a smart thermostat up to $100.
- Clay Electric offers $250 back for a new heat pump rated 15.2 SEER2 or higher.
