Federal Energy Efficiency Tax Credits for Residential Homes
The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 offers homeowners federal tax credits for home efficiency improvements in primary residences. Qualifying equipment includes:
- Central air conditioners must be rated 16 SEER or higher
- Gas furnaces must be rated 95% AFUE or higher
- Heat pumps must be rated 15 SEER or higher
- Water heaters must be rated 0.82 UEF or 90% thermal efficiency or higher for gas-powered units or 2.2 UEF or higher for electric-powered units.
